Unisféra’s Marc Paquin and Julian Lee will shortly be part of a team of four trainers offering a course on Sustainability Reporting with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI). The training will be held by LEAD Canada, an official GRI training partner, whose GRI certification is currently in progress. Tentative course dates have been set for December 15 & 16, 2008 in Toronto, January 15 & 16, 2009 in Montreal, February 5 & 6 in Calgary, February 19 & 20 in Vancouver, and March 2 & 3 in Toronto. Joana Talafré, director of international programmes at Unisféra, recently completed the final evaluation of NAPAs in 13 countries (Senegal, Mauritania, The Gambia, Central African Republic, Haiti, Afghanistan, Uganda, Tanzania, Lesotho, Comoros, Djibouti, Liberia and Rwanda). The evaluation included the design of a proprietary methodology, based on UNEP and GEF evaluation standards, as well as desk studies and participatory evaluation missions.

Unisféra in partnership with Farm Radio International, UNITERRA/WUSC, Care Canada, the Canadian Council for International Cooperation and with support from the Canadian International Development Agency held a Special Forum to mark the 2008 World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought, in Ottawa on June 17 on the topic : Small Scale Agriculture - an essential component of sustainable livelihoods in the face of land degradation, desertification and adaptation to climate change in Africa. It brought together representatives from a wide range of Canadian civil society organizations, the Canadian International Development Agency, other government departments and national and international institutions.
